Short Bio

1. What genre would you consider your music to be and can you describe your music in one sentence ?
That's two questions Andrew. We play a range of progressive metal and ambient original tunes with harmonic vocal backing, howling guitars and a sardonic sense of humour.

2. Who are your members, what instruments do they play and who have they previously played with?
Simon Llewellyn (formerly from: The Hybrid) leads the band and can be found forever swapping between ESP and PRS guitars.

Oskar Larsson (formerlyfrom: The Waiheke something something) plays a dominating 1000 piece drumkit complete with twin kick drums and a circular saw blade.

Paul Hibbert (We Dunno, P-Hibit) carves it up with a range of Ibanez JEM guitars and synths the fuck out on his keyboards.

Craig Dallimore (formerly: Life After J) fangs around with an ESP bass.

3. How long has your band been playing for ?
The members of Initial have been playing together for a few years - this lineup has been together under the Initial band name for 1 year.

4. Name three bands /artists that you identify with and are comparable to your sound.
We can make some easy connections to Tool and Faith No More. We also listen to a lot of Dream Theatre, G3, Aphex Twin, The Knife, NOFX, Frenzal Rhomb and Queens of the Stone Age, so there's more than likely that some of those bands have leaked into our music like poorly shielded plutonium.

5. Do you have any releases, if so what are they and where are they available ?
We've got a bunch of good demos if you're interested, but we're holding back the really good stuff until it's absolutely ready.

About initial

initial (no caps) are a 4 piece alt-pop-rock band from Auckland made up of these guys:

Simon (guitars/vox/gearbox)
Craig (bass/vox/ds)
Oskar (drums/vox/saw)
Paul (guitars/keys/vox/beers)

We have around 30 original songs ranging from dark thought songs to all out neck-jarring, child-upsetting rock epics, and we have recorded a three track demo CD at the Rock Factory.

We draw from our collective influences including Weezer, Alice in Chains, The Beatles, Tool, Foo Fighters, Gravity, Vai, Various cartoons & movies, milk etc, and incorporate the vocal abilities of all band members in our songs.

We are passionate about our music, and love performing for an audience.
